The Third Semester was unveiled in the spring of 1998 and education at St. Augustine Prep immediately reached new heights. The program revolutionized the scope of academics at the Prep and placed it at the cutting edge of experiential learning.

Ten years later, current Head of School, Father Robert J. Murray, O.S.A. excitedly shared the Oscar Mike program to help open Third Semester to as many Hermits as possible. Thanks to the generosity of a Prep Family who wishes to remain anonymous, Oscar Mike will provide talented students the opportunity to participate in Third Semester courses despite financial challenges. Fr. Murray acknowledged, “This gift will allow students to be enriched with unique learning and life experiences while they forge memories and relationships with fellow Hermit Brothers and faculty. I am deeply grateful for this gift as it is central to our Mission and is an inspiration for others to support students at St. Augustine Prep.”

Hermits learn from the friendly confines of Richland, NJ to every corner of the planet.

Oscar Mike is a military term for On the Move. As the family explained, “Our son enjoyed a life-changing experience on his Third Semester course. On the Move denotes progress to a better opportunity; we are happy to know we can help other students enjoy such an experience.”

In addition to their leadership gift and five-year commitment, the family has offered to match up to $20,000 of the community’s donations made to Oscar Mike on the stipulation the community unites to reach a shared goal of 959 donors on the inaugural Hermits Giving Day.
